Steam Library Organization That Actually Sticks

A lightweight system for sorting games by mood and time, so you spend less time scrolling and more time playing.

The Real Problem: Too Many Choices

A huge library feels great… until it turns into decision paralysis.

Instead of trying to perfectly categorize everything, use a system that’s easy to maintain.

Step 1: Create 5 Simple Collections

Start with:

  • Playing Now (max 3 games)
  • Next Up (max 5 games)
  • Chill / Cozy
  • Competitive / Ranked
  • Co-op With Friends

Everything else can stay un-sorted.

Step 2: Add a "One Evening" Tag

Some games are great but hard to start. Make it easy:

  • Add a collection for One Evening (short sessions)

That’s your default when you don’t know what to play.

Step 3: The Weekly Reset

Once a week:

  • Move one game out of Next Up into Playing Now
  • Remove anything you’re not excited to launch

The Rule

If it takes effort to maintain, you won’t maintain it.

Simple systems win.
